In the fall of 2022, I had the privilege of riding my motorcycle from southern Africa to Kenya. I and my fellow travelers had a life-changing experience traveling through South Africa, Namibia, Zambia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Tanzania, and Kenya. Not only did the trip exceed my expectations, but the people, places, and geography have forever made their mark on me.

The people we encountered in the hard, desolate landscape made the countries absolutely beautiful.

One of the highlights of the trip was visiting the Jane Goodall Research Center, where I was able to witness firsthand the important conservation work being done to protect the beautiful chimpanzees and their habitat. Seeing the chimps themselves, and how they lived and interacted, was a powerful reminder of why it’s important to fight to save all endangered species.

Jane Goodall is an inspiration to us all.

Another highlight of my trip through southern and eastern Africa was experiencing the great animal migration in the Serengeti. Seeing that many animals in the wide-open plains was breathtaking. Wildebeests, zebras, lions, crocodiles, and many other animals all gathered together to either migrate for food or find a migrator for food. The wildness of the animals and land needs to be preserved and from what I experienced, that was happening.

It was a breathtaking display of the wildness and beauty of animals and the land they inhabit.

I have so many experiences and stories to tell from my trip through southern and eastern Africa. Stay tuned for many more episodes and videos that share how my perspective changed as I rode through deserts, rain forests, and coastal roads and encountered the beautiful people, places, and geography of Africa.

As the writer, Bridge Dore said, “You cannot leave Africa. It is always with you, there inside your head. Our rivers run in currents in the swirl of your thumbprints; our drumbeats counting out your pulse; our coastline, the silhouette of your soul.”
